My
R6 got hit! Grrrrr!!
| |
Summary: I parked on Pearl
and 16th and went into a restaurant to eat. When I came back out,
my bike had been hit by a vehicle, knocked over and picked back up.
There was a note on it. |

Parked
in front of the Army Navy Surplus store on 16th and Pearl in Downtown
Boulder. Went into Mountain Sun to eat and celebrate Ira's
F4i purchase. |
| |
~4:00 pm
|
|
Lady backed into my bike, knocking it over.
She left a note with a phone number. |
| |
4:40 pm
|
|
Found the damaged bike. Took about 45 pictures. |
| |
5:00 pm
|
|
Talked to Officer S. Cast (badge # 950)
of the Boulder Police Department (BPD) and two other officers about
what to do as they looked at the bike. Showed Cast the pictures. |
| |
5:30 pm
|
|
Rode home. Ira followed part way to make
sure everything was fine. Couldn't shift out of 2nd gear easily..
and rode home most of the way in 2nd. |
| |
5:40 pm
|
|
Called the Lady. She would not talk to me.
She gave me a long distance number to her husband. |
| |
5:42 pm
|
|
Called the husband, Nick. Talked for 15 or 20 minutes. He was very
uncooperative.. wouldn't give me the info I needed for the police
report. I was very calm and diplomatic on this phone call. He was
loony and illogical. Here are some of his quotes:
- "You were parked illegally and we are NOT going to pay
for anything on your motorcycle."
- "My wife couldn't have done more than tap your bike. It
couldn't be more than a hundred dollars worth of damage."
- "I will not pay for your motorcycle. I'll be talking to
my lawyers."
- "If I have to dish out a couple hundred bucks for a lawyer,
then I will."
- "You did NOT go talk to the police. Come on, you know you
didn't."
- "No, I don't want to see the pictures."
|
| |
6:00 pm
|
|
Called Officer Cast back (left a voice mail)
to let him know that the Lady wasn't cooperative at all, and that
they didn't give me any insurance information. |
| |

Talked to the Toby Moser State Farm up the street from my house
and filed a claim for the bike. I found out how to proceed from
here:
- File the claim. State Farm would pay for it initially.
- Talk to the BPD to get the people's information
- Take the bike in for a repair estimate
- Get an adjustor out to look at it
- Get it fixed and paid for
- Go after the Lady's insurance company
|
| |
12:00 pm
|
|
Went to the Satellite Boulder Police Station
on 16th and Pearl to look for Officer Cast. He wasn't there, so I
talked to Officer Reznik (badge # 64). Showed him the site and the
pictures. He dispatched an accident investigator. |
| |
12:20 pm
|
|
Talked to Officer G. Powers, Accident Investigator,
of the BPD. He looked at the pictures and the site, and filed an official
police report: PO2-300A. |
| |
12:28 pm
|
|
State Farm called with a claim number and
some other information. Left a voice mail. (I was talking with the
police at the time) |
| |
1:31 pm
|
|
State Farm called with questions and answers
about the claim. Clarified the date with them. |
| |
1:35 pm
|
|
BPD called and wanted to talk to me and
see the bike. They said they would come to my house since the bike
was unsafe to ride. |
| |
2:15 pm
|
|
Officer Kurt (?) arrived at my house to
look at the bike and ask some questions. Turns out that he was filling
out police report # PO2-299A filed by the Lady. Apparently they called
in after I talked to them. He said he'd compile the two reports together. |

double police report situation. |
| |
10:30 am |

and see which route was the best to take to make sure that the Lady's
insurance paid for my bike. |
