These are the Palm Pilot notes I took on the trip:
(with thumbnails inserted)

BIKE TRIP:

1) I-70: stopped in Georgetown to get Mt. Dew. Was getting tired. 50 miles.

2) took Loveland Pass (hwy 6). Picture. 76.2 miles. The BEST quality curvy road I've ever been on! Bike was choking a bit at the top. Dumped into Keystone, then Silverthorn.

3) I-70: stopped in Copper because of rain. It's beautiful here... Almost romantic. Makes me wish Lana was here. 105 miles.

4) I-70: stopped in Eagle to get gas. 155 miles. No gas light. Vail was friggin' cold!

5) I-70: Glenwood Springs. 185 miles. Jumped in the springs for a couple of hrs. Also took a shower. Very nice.

6) hwy 82: looked at several spots in the woods between GS and Aspen to sleep at.. No dice.

7) Aspen: pulled in at midnight. 233 miles. Butt really hurt. Walked around until 2:30am to find a spot to sleep. Finally decided on a bench in downtown Aspen (picture). Laid there until 3:30 freezing my butt off, then a guy named Tim stopped by: "you okay?" "ya, fine. Just getting a little sleep" etc etc. Turns out, he owned a bar and invited me to sleep in there on a warm bench. "okay" (of course). (pictures). The cleaners woke me up at 7:00am, and I left. Ate bfast at a bakery. Got gas at 2.23/gal.

8) stopped at Twin Lakes on the east entrance to Independence Pass (hwy 82) for another breakfast. The pass was SO beautiful! I must have stopped a dozen times. Took quite a few pictures.

9) hwy 24: BV BABY!! Oiled the chain at 287 miles, BV at 297 miles. Stopped at the park by K's and slept for 2 hours. S. on hwy 285, W. on hwy 50 at Poncha Springs.

10) hwy 50: heavy rain up Monarch pass. Stopped with a group of harley riders. Saw a pickup and its camper turned upside down in the middle of the road at the top of the pass. Monarch pass ROCKS! The road quality was like Loveland pass. Very fun road, too. Temp must have varied by 40 deg from top to bottom of the pass. Still laughing about last night in Aspen.

11) Gunnison: 380 miles. My jacket is getting kind of gross from bugs. P.S.. I need to crap. I think I'll try to find a hotel tonight.

12) hwy 135: 411 miles. Crested Butte. This place is absolutely breathtaking. Took several pictures. Mt. Crested Butte is just amazing.

13) back to Gunnison for food, duct tape, string, and garbage bags. (going to try to make a tent).

14) I succesfully made a tent. Haha.. And it didn't turn out half bad. Got dark before I could totally finish it up, though. Still needs an end and a door. Will get pictures in the morning.

15) froze my butt off last night. Slept like crap. Think I bruised my hips because the ground was so hard. Crawled into a trash bag to keep warm.. it worked too! Built a fire at first light to get warm. Drank coffee with the guys in the camp site next to me. Used maple syrup to sweeten it. Everyone I meet offers me weed. Kind of funny.

16) hwy 50 to hwy 149. Stopped at mile 520 to lube the chain. Lake City and the surrounding area is absolutely goageous. Hwy 149 has to be by far the all-around best long and continuously awesome road in Coloaado. The first 30 miles was a friggin' race track. Overall, one of the best crotch-rocket roads I've ever been on. Took panoramic photos at mile 568.

17) South Fork: 680 miles. Gas/food. Didn't see one single cop on all of hwy 149. First vehicle I saw on hwy 160 was a cop. Hmm. Took 3 hrs to get here from Gunnison. Ate, gas.

18) hwy 160. 720 miles at Durango. Ran into major road construction several times. 160 is pretty flat. Nothing special. Wolf Creek Pass is fun, but has lots of cops. Got a 30 min professional massage in town. Felt great. Didn't fix my back pain, though. Right trap is killing me. Cleaned up a little in a public restroom.

19) hwy 550. This road goes uphill for litterally the first 40 miles. Pretty un-curvy, too. Wow. The entire road was wet. Staying in Durango for 3 hrs turned out being a good idea, since it was pouring up 550. After Molas Divide, until Ouray, the road was friggin' sweet. Super curvy. Pretty slow, though. The scenery here was breathtaking. I don't know how many times I stopped to get a picture. It was very cold up there, and it was getting dark, so I didn't stick around as much as I'd have liked.

20) Ouray. 790 miles: Oh, my. Don't think I'v ever been so awed by a town before. Amazingly beautiful. Definitely have to come back here next summer.

21) hwy 550 to Montrose. 820 miles. Dark, pretty flat road. Got a room at a motel with a hot tub. Heaven. Ate, then crashed. Slept for 10 hrs. Wow. I needed it. I was looking pretty grizzley. Drove 8 hrs today.

22) 847 miles, in Delta: washed the R6. 849 miles: lubed the chain.

23) hwy 65: once past Cedaredge, 65 rocked! Road quality was pretty good. Beautiful scenery. Got a few pictures. Between Mesa and I-70, another race track exists. Flat road in a mesa canyon next to a river. Saw two cops. Fun stuff. I'm at the point now where I can easily double (and then some) the corner speed limit signs.

24) I-70: flopped on my bike like a dishrag. Right trapezoid really hurts.

25) 966 miles: the town of Silt: gas, food.

26) hwy 24: south to Leadville. Road quality was marginal. Almost ate it for the first time this trid on a 20 mph curner crapped up with gravel, rocks, and bumps.

27) hwy 91: quite scenic, but not all that fun. Too many 60 mph curves. I definitely like roads where most corners are posted as 25 - 40 mph.

28) I-70, 1107 miles.: stopped at Dillon for gas and starbucks. Going to take Loveland pass again.

29) Raced a porche down from Georgetown to 6th on I-70. 6th was packed... not much fun.

30) HOME: 1175 miles
