Yes, six months. I bought Aimee a yellow
gold necklace to determine if that was the color to get for her
ring. |
| rlp |
T-3 mo |
Bought her a 'mood' ring while in colorado,
in order to figure out what her ring size was. And because it
was a fun ring. :o) |
| rlp |
T-6 weeks |
Started seriously looking into diamond engagement
rings. |
| rlp |
T-5 weeks |
Bought airline tickets to Colorado. |
| rlp |
T-4 weeks |
Decided on a plan, and got Darrick in on
it. |
| rlp |
T-19 days |
Talked with my cubemate Sadhana about getting
the ring. She used to be in the business and helped me to understand
what was what. |
| rlp |
T-15 days |
Had two diamonds flown in from California
to look at. I spent around two hours with a hand loupe determining
which diamond had all the qualities that I wanted it to have. Decided
on the rest of the features for the ring also. |

T-14 days |
Went to Colorado. Asked her parents' permission
over breakfast. Went on a long bike ride in the mountains with Aimee
to make sure that 1) she was experienced in the twistys and 2) make
sure that she was finished breaking in her bike. |

T-12 days |
Told Aimee that Darrick told me he wanted
to ride with her before he sold his bike. |
| rlp |
T-6 days |
Aimee asked me what I was doing the following
weekend. I thought she might know what was going on. |
| rlp |
T-5 days |
Told Aimee that Darrick and I had talked
and that he was interested in riding with her. Told her I had given
him her number, and that he may call sometime if he had time. |
| rlp |
T-3 days |
Received and paid for the completed engagement
ring. |

Darrick called Aimee and set up the ride
for that Friday afternoon at 3pm. They decided to meet at the miniature
golf place north of Boulder on Hwy 36. |
| rlp |
T-18 hrs |
Arrived in Colorado. Got a beige, non-descript
rental car for the day and crashed at Darrick's house. |
| rlp |
T-4 hrs |
Bought black shoes that matched what Darrick
wears. Made sure our clothes matched. |
| rlp |
T-1.5 hrs |
One last meeting with Darrick to make sure
we both knew exactly what we were doing and what the contingency
plans were. |
| rlp |
3:30 pm |
Darrick met Aimee at the miniature golf
place in the parking lot. He distracted her away from the parking
lot by going and chit-chatting in the shade near the building while
I drove into the parking lot and hid my car behind another car well
out of site. |
| rlp |
3:45 pm |
They took off on the bikes towards Lyons
on Hwy-36. I followed behind with one car between us. Darrick was
carefull to ride slightly behind Aimee to ensure that she couldn't
get a good look at him on his bike (since he's like a foot taller
than me). |
| rlp |
3:55 pm |
At the stoplight into Lyons, Darrick told
her that he needed to stop real quick to 'pinch a loaf' and that
she should go on ahead, that he'd catch right up. |
| rlp |
3:57 pm |
Darrick pulled off into a gas station. Aimee
continued on towards Estes Park. I pulled in right behind Darrick. |
| rlp |
4:00 pm |
After putting on Darrick's helmet, jacket
and gloves, I was off chasing Aimee up Hwy-36 towards Estes. |
| rlp |
4:20 pm |
Lots of traffic kept me from catching her
like I wanted. She beat me to Estes and was waiting on the west
side of the lake. I put down my visor and motioned her to keep going,
without being very sociable. |
| rlp |
4:21 pm |
We made it past the first two stop lights
with no problem. |
| rlp |
4:22 pm |
We got stopped at the third light in town.
This was possibly the longest minute of my life. |
| rlp |
4:23 pm |
We got stopped by the fourth light in town.
I made sure to be behind her on this one, so that she wouldn't be
tempted to try to get me to talk. |

I walked down to her bike. She was busy
trying to get it started and didn't get a good look at me, so she
still didn't know. I put my arm around her and told her "don't
worry, we'll get it started". Then I lifted the helmet visor.
She didn't recognize me. Then I took off the sunglasses. She still
didn't recognize me. I took off the helmet. She just stared at me
for about two seconds while she processed what was going on, and
then was very excited and happy! lol. Very worth it. |
| rlp |
T-12 min |
I took her over to a nice lookout area away
from the road and we talked for a little while. |
| rlp |
T-2 min |
I think this is about when she figured out
what was going on. |

Popped the question. She said yes. :) |
